We are often encouraged to bury uncomfortable feelings, and ignore difficult situations; to pretend that everything is fine. This is like stuffing something into a wardrobe. At some point the wardrobe won't hold any more and bursts open, spilling the contents everywhere! This can show up in your life as emotional outbursts such as irrational anger, resentment, depression, anxiety, even physical illness. Many diseases are now believed to be caused by stress.
Therapy is a way of opening the wardrobe carefully, taking out the contents a bit at a time, shaking them out and deciding which to fold up and put back carefully, and which to throw away.
